Jonglei State, South Sudan, April 13, 2026

Savanna Radio News Bulletin

Fresh reports from Jonglei indicate that forces of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO) and other opposition groups have regained control of Akobo Township after several days of heavy fighting. Local sources confirm that government troops withdrew from the area following sustained clashes overnight, allowing opposition forces including SPLA-IO forces to reestablish administrative presence early this morning.

Speaking to Savanna Radio, one of the SPLA-IO Generals described the takeover as a “strategic victory” aimed at securing civilians and restoring stability in the border region. Independent observers have not yet verified the full extent of casualties, though humanitarian agencies warn that hundreds of families may have been displaced as a result of the renewed fighting.

Meanwhile, community leaders in Akobo are calling for calm and urging both sides to ensure the protection of civilians. The situation remains tense but reportedly quieter as the oppostions consolidates its positions and local residents assess the damage left by recent battles.

The South Sudanese government has not issued an official statement on the development. Savanna Radio will continue to monitor updates and provide verified information as further details emerge.
