Savanna Radio has seen a public release issued by the Secretary General of the Federal Democratic Party (FDP), Hon. Wizir Michael Liah, confirming a leadership transition within the party and clarifying that Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang no longer represents the FDP in any capacity.
According to the statement, Hon. Changson formally handed over the leadership of the party to his First Deputy, Hon. Cirillo Thou Riing, marking the end of his tenure at the helm of the FDP. The party said it appreciates Hon. Changson’s past service and contributions, but stressed that the transition is final and binding within its internal structures.
The release further stated that following the handover, Hon. Changson does not speak for the FDP, either officially or unofficially. It emphasized that the party continues to operate under its established leadership and institutional framework, now under the stewardship of Hon. Cirillo Thon Riing.
The FDP also reaffirmed its commitment to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan, as well as to its political vision, principles, and the aspirations of its members. The party said it remains an active part of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and will continue to support efforts aimed at advancing democratic governance and sustainable peace in the country.
The Secretary General’s release comes amid continued political repositioning among South Sudanese opposition parties, with the FDP seeking to present a clearer picture of its current leadership and organizational direction.
