Savanna Radio News Bulletin.
Former Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete arrived in South Sudan in a major round of high-level consultations aimed at strengthening peace implementation efforts and political dialogue among national stakeholders, Savanna Radio has learned.
According to a tentative schedule prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and obtained by Savanna Radio, Mr. Kikwete is expected to arrive in Juba on April 8th and depart the country on April 10th, 2026. The visit follows his recent consultations with the Presidents of South Africa and Uganda, signaling renewed regional momentum to support South Sudan’s transitional peace process.
During his stay in Juba, Mr. Kikwete who serves as a key facilitator within the broader East African peace architecture will hold back-to-back meetings with President Salva Kiir Mayardit, representatives of UNMISS, IGAD, RJMEC, and AUMISS, as well as senior government ministers. The schedule also includes engagements with leaders of political parties, civil society organizations (CSOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), and faith-based organizations (FBOs), alongside members of the academic community.
Diplomatic sources indicate that Mr. Kikwete will also meet with envoys from the Troika (United States, United Kingdom, and Norway), the European Union, the International Partners Forum (IPF), and the SPLM Secretary General to assess national progress on the Revitalized Peace Agreement and discuss preparations for the country’s long-anticipated elections.
Observers describe the visit as a “critical confidence-building mission,” coming at a time when regional and international partners are pushing for renewed unity and implementation of pending peace benchmarks before South Sudan transitions to permanent governance structures.
Further details on Mr. Kikwete’s itinerary are officially confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign.
