Savanna Radio has seen a press release issued by the People’s Resistance Front (PRF) confirming its participation in the High-Level Consultation Meeting on the South Sudan conflict held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The meeting, organized under the auspices of former Tanzanian President H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete in his capacity as the African Union High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, brought together various South Sudanese opposition groups in a renewed effort to seek a lasting political solution to the country’s prolonged crisis.
According to the statement, the PRF delegation was led by its Chairman, Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang, who welcomed the initiative and commended the Government of Tanzania for providing a neutral platform for dialogue. He emphasized the critical role of regional actors in facilitating inclusive consultations aimed at restoring peace and stability in South Sudan.
In a one-on-one engagement with the Special Envoy, Hon. Changson outlined what he described as the root causes of the South Sudan conflict, including systemic governance failures, political exclusion, and the absence of meaningful institutional reforms. He stressed that these longstanding issues continue to fuel instability and must be addressed through a genuine and inclusive political process.
The PRF Chairman also raised concerns over the shortcomings of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), noting that weak implementation, lack of political will, and failure to tackle structural challenges have limited its effectiveness. He cautioned that without serious reforms, the agreement risks falling short of delivering sustainable peace.
On the way forward, the PRF called for a restructured peace process that prioritizes inclusivity, accountability, and institutional transformation. The movement reiterated its commitment to engaging with all stakeholders to advance a comprehensive solution that reflects the aspirations of the South Sudanese people.
According to the statement, “The People’s Resistance Front (PRF) firmly rejects the claim by the UPA alleging’s Secretary General that Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang participated in the Dar es Salaam consultations in the capacity of Chairman of the FDP, describing it as a clear misrepresentation of facts. Hon. Changson attended and engaged in the process strictly in his official capacity as Chairman of the PRF”.
The Dar es Salaam consultations are part of ongoing regional and international efforts to revive dialogue among South Sudanese actors amid growing concerns over the stalled peace process and continued political tensions in the country.
