In a bold and thought-provoking open letter addressed to President Salva Kiir Mayardit, an anonymous writer has raised serious concerns about obstacles to progress within South Sudan’s political leadership. The piece, titled “Exposing Akol Paul Kordit as an Obstacle to Progress and Defending Rt. Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba,” sheds light on the internal dynamics affecting governance and reform not only within the ruling party (SPLM) but also the country’s political institutions. The author calls for renewed accountability, respect for leadership, and commitment to national development, positioning the letter as both a critique and a plea for unity in the pursuit of lasting progress.
The Letter:
SUBJECT: EXPOSING AKOL PAUL KORDIT AS AN OBSTACLE TO PROGRESS AND DEFENDING RT. HON. JEMMA NUNU KUMBA
Your Excellency,
1. Introduction: Enough of Political Hypocrisy
We can no longer remain silent while individuals like Akol Paul Kordit attempt to mislead the party and the nation through false accusations and manufactured conflicts.
Akol Paul is not a reformer. He is not a victim. He is a consistent source of division, confrontation, and political instability within the SPLM.
2. A Pattern of Conflict with Every Leader
The record is clear and undeniable:
Akol Paul has made it a habit to fight every leader he once worked under or alongside.
– He fought senior leaders and elders in Lakes State
– He turned against senior cadres who mentored him politically
– He clashed with Hon. Peter Lam even before official processes like swearing-in
– He opposed Rt. Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba
– He conflicted with Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth during his time as Deputy in the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication
This is not coincidence. This is character.
A man who fights everyone is not fighting corruption—he is fighting authority.
3. A Record of Division, Not Leadership
Akol Paul’s leadership history, especially during his time as Chairperson of the SPLM Youth League, raises serious concerns:
– Financial mismanagement and questionable use of resources
– Promotion of division through social and tribal lines
– Weak and confrontational leadership style
– Failure to unite youth under a common national vision
His leadership has always been based on conflict, not solutions.
4. False Claims of Clean Politics
It is deeply dishonest for Akol Paul to present himself as the “clean” or “anti-corruption” voice.
The truth is:
He is not the most qualified, not the most disciplined, and certainly not the cleanest figure to lecture others on integrity.
Those who have followed his record know that his accusations against others are nothing more than a political shield to hide his own failures.
5. Targeting Strong Leaders for Relevance
Akol Paul’s attacks on Rt. Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba and other senior leaders are not about accountability—they are about relevance.
He targets strong, established leaders to create attention, build personal political capital, and position himself as an alternative—without offering real solutions.
This is opportunistic politics at its worst.
6. Defending Rt. Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba
While Akol Paul creates conflict, Rt. Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba has delivered results:
– Successfully served in five ministerial positions
– Stabilized and developed Western Equatoria State as Governor
– Strengthened and sustained Parliament under difficult conditions
Her leadership is built on experience, discipline, and national service—not noise and confrontation.
7. A Clear Warning to Political Disruptors
The SPLM and the people of South Sudan must not allow individuals who thrive on division to destabilize the party.
Leadership is about unity, responsibility, and results—not endless fights with colleagues and seniors.
8. Conclusion: Choose Leadership Over Chaos
We must choose:
– Between proven leadership and constant conflict
– Between national unity and political division
– Between results and empty accusations
Akol Paul represents conflict.
Rt. Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba represents leadership.
The choice is clear.
Yours faithfully,
Advocates for Unity, Stability, and Responsible Leadership
South Sudan
