Arsenal remain top of the Premier League table but face intense pressure from a surging Manchester City as Matchweek 28 unfolds, with key fixtures this weekend set to shape both the title race and the relegation battle.

Today’s key results and fixtures

  • Wolverhampton Wanderers stunned third‑placed Aston Villa 2–0 on Friday, a result that kept Wolves’ faint survival hopes alive and left Villa stuck on 51 points.

  • On Saturday, Bournemouth extended its unbeaten league run to eight matches with a 1–1 home draw against Sunderland.

  • Burnley’s relegation worries deepened after a chaotic 4–3 home defeat to Brentford in a seven‑goal thriller, with the visitors scoring a stoppage‑time winner.

  • Newcastle United’s poor form continued as they lost 3–2 at home to Everton, with the Toffees boosting their push for mid‑table security.

Later today, Liverpool hosts West Ham United at Anfield, Leeds United welcomes Manchester City, and Burnley face Brentford, while Sunday’s headline clash sees leaders Arsenal take on London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

Title race: Arsenal vs Manchester City

Arsenal sit first on 61 points from 28 matches and know they must beat Chelsea on Sunday to keep control of the title race. Manchester City, who defeated Leeds United 1–0 thanks to a first‑half stoppage‑time goal from January signing Antoine Semenyo, have cut the gap to just two points with a game in hand and have now won four straight league games.

Both sides have 10 matches left, and many analysts now see this as a two‑team battle, with Aston Villa’s slip at Wolves and Manchester United’s game in hand leaving them as outsiders. City are also managing without injured striker Erling Haaland, increasing the importance of new attacking options like Semenyo in their run‑in.

Top‑four and European spots

Behind Arsenal and City, Aston Villa remain third on 51 points despite their defeat, but they can be overtaken if Manchester United, currently on 48 points, beat Crystal Palace on Sunday. Liverpool’s 5–2 win over West Ham, featuring goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo plus an own goal, has pulled them level on points with United as they chase a top‑four finish, even as Mohamed Salah’s league goal drought stretched to 10 games.

Chelsea, fifth on 45 points, visit Arsenal knowing a win would strengthen their push for Champions League qualification and simultaneously damage their rivals’ title ambitions. Brentford, Bournemouth, Everton, Fulham and Newcastle sit in mid‑table, where every result now shapes the battle for European places and prize‑money positions.

Relegation battle heating up

At the bottom, West Ham United are 18th on 25 points, Burnley 19th with 19 points, and Wolverhampton Wanderers 20th, officially listed on 10–13 points depending on the latest updates, all desperately fighting to escape the drop zone. Burnley’s late collapse against Brentford has left them eight points short of safety, underlining how costly dropped points are at this stage of the season.english.

Premier League analysts say Burnley “have to” turn recent improved performances into wins, while Wolves’ shock victory over Villa offers a glimmer of hope in what has otherwise been a difficult campaign. With West Ham visiting Liverpool, and other relegation rivals facing tough fixtures, the bottom three could look very different by the end of the weekend.
