The embassies of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America have issued a joint statement in Juba expressing grave concern over renewed violence in Jonglei, Eastern Equatoria, and other parts of South Sudan. The diplomats are urging all armed actors to immediately halt the fighting and to allow humanitarian agencies safe and unhindered access to affected communities.
In the statement, the embassies warn that the escalating clashes risk further undermining South Sudan’s fragile peace process and worsening an already dire humanitarian situation. Reports from the ground indicate that insecurity has disrupted essential services, displaced families, and in some areas blocked life-saving assistance from reaching civilians most in need.
The international partners call on all parties to agree to an immediate cessation of hostilities and to resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue rather than violence. They also renew their appeal for all sides to guarantee safe, unhindered humanitarian access so that relief organizations can operate freely and deliver food, medical care, and other critical support to vulnerable populations.
